Teflon Non-Stick Additive For Fabrics Printer Friendly Version
A wash cycle and dryer heat set Teflon like additive that would repel unwanted materials from pet hair too dust or dirt. This way you could simply shake off the blanket or shirt (blouse) or pants after they aquire the unwanted material. It would simply float to the floor where all other unwanted things go anyway and get vacuumed up evetually some time later.
This treatment for fabrics wouldn't be like starch and make them stiff, but leave the fabrics soft and flexible. Comfortable fabrics with that little added advantage of a permiated, fully saturated to repel and keep everything but liquids out which you could add to this product. The treatment might be able to even keep out moisture once heat set in the dryer and then only break down with soaps or detergents for cleaning purposes.

Humming heads Printer Friendly Version
I read about a phenomena called 'otoacoustic emission' in an article at newscientist.com where there was a dog who seemed to be humming everywhere he went. Here's an excerpt from the article: "In this condition, the normal hearing pathways in the ears are somehow reversed, so that the cochlear efferent nerve fibers stimulate outer hair cells to vibrate and make a noise. Other parts of the ear such as the tympanic membrane can then amplify the sound, until you end up like Zoe, humming wherever you go."
Zoe, as you might have guessed, was the dog.
Never letting a weird thought go to waste, here's a suggestion on how we could turn that condition into something useful. People who have had a severe spinal injury can enter what is called a 'locked-in state', meaning they are so paralyzed that there's no way for them to communicate with the outside world. If a cochlear implant was designed so that it could create these otoacoustic emissions on demand then it might give these patients a way to communicate. With a little biofeedback training they could vary the sound waves that are being emitted and establish a new form of communication.

Heat Resistant Body Lotion or Hand Cream Printer Friendly Version
A cream, gel, or lotion that obsorbs into all layers of the skin much like a dermalogical type skin cream but, alot like a sun tan lotion as well. It would coat the outer layers and also, the inner layers of the skin. When the layer is outside it would prevent all heat from penetrating into the skin thus, allowing all heat to disapate. The inner layers are added protection. It would not be slippery and would allow you to pick up anything. It would be made from chemicals that easily absorb into the skin layers but, also is thick enough to sit on top. It would also be made of materials that resist heat that can be found in all forms from plastics to types of oven gloves and asbestos but, would not be cancerous. You could apply it to your skin, hair, or any where you didn't want to be burnt.
If you can simply apply sun tan lotion to your hands and rub it in until it is saturated then, turn your hot water on full heat and stick in your hands. You will find that your hands are still cool and protectected if you are preventing penatration of all heat into the skin simply by changing your skin temporarily. Right? It would also be water proof and only come off with soap unless you work as a dish washer then you would want the kind that would have to wear off when working in hot water. If you are a cook then grabbing a hot handle of a pot or pan, it would allow you to do that too.
You could add a sun tan lotion UVA/UVB protection from the sun even skin conditioner or everything added to it to make a multi-purpose cream or lotion. If you clean bathrooms you might want this cream to have protection from bacteria, HIV, and diseases. The possibilities are endless when you are impervious to all heat and hot things. You could add anything to it to fit your job and never fear getting burnt.
