Low Cost Terminal Printer Friendly Version
What about a new low cost terminal, something like the old Commodore 64 but with new features: keyboard with integrated screen (40x10 chars), no hard disk, instead flash memory (1 gig), serial port, USB port, internal modem and thermal printer... that's it. Programmable in Basic, C, Pascal or some other low level language.
Lots of small merchants would like the idea of billing (for example) with this low cost terminals, and lots of programmer will have the opportunity of become in contractors, consultants, independient programmers, etc.
Not everybody needs all the features and devices that come with a PC (which make 'em very expensive by the way). This terminal could cost, let's say... $50-$100? I'm sure they will spread and the programmers will get money. Don't think in rich countries where almost everybody can afford a PC, they are the least, think in the huge amount of people that can't afford a normal PC but need it or something like it. Programmer can develop light programs to connect to Internet and you could access your email and text web pages too, like some cell phones do.
Yes, we have Palm, Verifone, Treo and lots of other hand helds stuff, but are still expensive and require very expensive licenses for software deploying.
Reward: T-shirts and caps with my new bussines logo.

What if your belongings could TALK Printer Friendly Version
I lose things all the time. My cell phone, the remote, my purse, all sorts of objects are constantly squirting out of my grasp and getting lost, and I then spend countless hours searching... okay it's not that extreme, but it is annoying to lose stuff in your house and wander around looking for it.
The product I imagine is a small round device with a button and a tiny speaker, with some adhesive on the back, you could peel and stick onto any item you are always losing. It uses voice recognition software similar to the way your cell phone can dial off voice commands. You hit the button to program it with that item's name. Or you could name it anything you like - name your purse Louis if you are so inclined. Then your item would be able to call out to you to aid in your search. You could call out "remote?" and your remote would either beep or answer back "here I am!". I imagine selling a package of these on TV commercials ("operators are standing by") for one lowlow price.
I have seen a similar product sold by Sharper Image, but it didn't use voice recognition, and it had a base unit which was enormous, and the tags to apply to your belongings were huge. Maybe technology can't make it small enough...

Immersive reality for Second Life Printer Friendly Version
Recent research has shown that a simulated out-of-body experience is easily induced by presenting a binocular view of another's surroundings to an observer (see reference 1 below). By presenting slightly different angles to the left and the right eye, a stereoscopic effect can be induced. Second life is a growing online community that would potentially be interested in immersive virtual reality, and there could be money to be made by enhancing their online experience. Using an infrared sensor similar to the Wii remote would provide head tracking to communicate with the software (see reference 2) in a more realistic way.
Ingredients:

1. Binocular display

2. Infrared sensor for head movement tracking simlilar using Wii remote hack. (see reference 2)
