What if your belongings could TALK Printer Friendly Version
I lose things all the time. My cell phone, the remote, my purse, all sorts of objects are constantly squirting out of my grasp and getting lost, and I then spend countless hours searching... okay it's not that extreme, but it is annoying to lose stuff in your house and wander around looking for it.
The product I imagine is a small round device with a button and a tiny speaker, with some adhesive on the back, you could peel and stick onto any item you are always losing. It uses voice recognition software similar to the way your cell phone can dial off voice commands. You hit the button to program it with that item's name. Or you could name it anything you like - name your purse Louis if you are so inclined. Then your item would be able to call out to you to aid in your search. You could call out "remote?" and your remote would either beep or answer back "here I am!". I imagine selling a package of these on TV commercials ("operators are standing by") for one lowlow price.
I have seen a similar product sold by Sharper Image, but it didn't use voice recognition, and it had a base unit which was enormous, and the tags to apply to your belongings were huge. Maybe technology can't make it small enough...

PHOTOSYNTHESIZING ROOFING MATERIAL Printer Friendly Version
This is my wildest idea and would probably require giant strides in technology but here goes:
Did you ever notice how much cooler it is under a tree than under any other sort of roof or covering? My theory is that this is because conventional roof coverings absorb and then radiate heat/energy downward producing a space that while it may be shaded, is not much cooler than the surrounding area. Trees on the other hand are absorbing the energy and using it for photosynthesis. Since the energy is being used and directed to the nourishment of the tree, heat does not radiate downward and it produces a much cooler space beneath.
My idea would be to produce a roofing material that is embedded or covered with photosynthesizing material. The material would absorb the sunlight/energy and produce sugars or perhaps even electricity that could be collected or used elsewhere, thereby removing the energy and preventing it from radiating down to the area below the roof.
I see this as a possible covering for homes, businesses, permanent patio covers in homes or parks, etc. When used in buildings it should dramatically reduce cooling costs and, if it is possible to convert the output to electricity, it could even offset some of the cost of installation.
Reward: Installation of the material on my house and any future homes I move to.

Flexable Circular Rubber Springing Sling-Shot Printer Friendly Version
A sling shot that is completely round and made of a very thin, strong rubber, in any color, that is centered just like a Native American drum toy. Tied to a outer, plastic, round circle then, attached to a rubber sling with a plastic handle to hold onto for that added spring. You simply pull back on a rubber handle, attached to the back of the rubber circle center and let go. With the rubber center and the partial rubber handle you have twice the power in slinging objects that you trap in the center of the sling shot and when it is in the center of the sling-shot it is more accurate than the usual sling shot because it doesn't move from side to side but, just from back to forward which, will send it straight out instead of to the side, even slightly. This sling has two properties. It has the rubber, circular, center that will be extremely effective in shooting out anything fast and accurate and the partial, upper, handle that, attaches to the sling on top and a hard plastic handle at the bottom for maximum velocity and spring action. Easy to make, cheap and can be made to have different strengths so that, you could even make a weak one for kids in the house for nurf balls or shooting paper balls. You can even make one strong enough to shoot hundreds of yards. Many uses and for all ages.
