Read a Newspaper, Plant a Tree Printer Friendly Version
How many trees are cut down to make newspapers? In an effort to offset this deforestation, all the major newspapers for one day in the year, could add just 1c / 1p or their price. The profit from the action could be pooled together and ploughed straight back into a fund specifically created to plant trees. If all the major newspapers did it, then it would create a level playing ground, price wise, for that one day and no customer would defect to another paper on price. Even if just one newspaper took the initiative for one day, it would help.

Trap wind for turbines Printer Friendly Version
I was reading how in certain places if two tall buildings are built close together they trap wind and send it rushing through the passage between them.
My idea is not to build turbines between skyscrapers as is often suggested but to build structures outside cities whose sole purpose is to trap wind and send it rushing through a narrow passage in which there are numerous turbines. The turbines can be built into the structure so only the actual turbine bit sticks out.
Given how much the turbines cost these structures could be built relatively cheaply out of concrete or maybe even plastic or wood on a metal frame.(i'm thinking flat plastic panels)
Unless i am wrong this should increase the output of each turbine dramatically.

Smokeless Heat Proof Cigarette Case Printer Friendly Version
Like any smokeless cigarette you need only slip your standard cigar or cigarette inside a tube with screens at both ends and one end you light while the other snaps shut for inhaling and could come with an optional filtration system to further make a "So called" safer smoke!
