Six Degrees of Computation Printer Friendly Version
This idea would require a simple computer program that displayed a screen asking 3 questions -
1. What equation/formula are you interested in?
2. What constant do you want replaced?
3. How many degrees of separation do you want?
After you answer the questions the program would search a database that had been pre-loaded with as many standard equations / formulae as possible (engineering books are full of them) looking for ones that said the chosen constant equaled something else. The first equation it found would then be used as a replacement value in the formula you chose. This is the first degree of separation. Next, each constant in the replacement value would be substituted with equivalent equations found for them. The second degree of separation. The process would continue until you got the number of degrees of separation you asked for and then the result would be displayed. Some new and surprising connections will be sure to come up because the program will be acting like a divergent thinker (someone who can take two ideas from seemingly unconnected disciplines to form a new idea).
The following two rules would have to be enforced in order to make this program work -
1. Each constant must always mean the same thing: m=mass, c=speed of light, etc.
2. No replacement formula could have a constant that was used in a previous formula (to prevent recursive logic).

FIX IT Subscription Service Printer Friendly Version
Most folk who use computers, correct me if I am wrong, don't care a jot how they work, they just want them to work. But the manuals are very complicated and long-winded the info. Goes on and on. YAWN. My local computer firms charge call-out fees, even for fixing problems they've already supposed to have fixed, then an hourly rate + parts and VAT. And then they'll keep me waiting sometimes for 2 weeks before they turn up. I have to make about 6 calls to get them here. Horrendous. And when they've gone, I later find out the problem could have been fixed in a few seconds had I known how to do it. Rip-off! SCREAM...
I would prefer to pay a reasonable annual subscription to a FIX IT firm with whom I can communicate quickly so my technical problems are solved FAST. Maybe an on-line FIX IT company, who can enter my computer to fix it on-line?
Reward: Peace of mind. No hassle. Save money and time.

Pay per view worth the view Printer Friendly Version
I think that Pay per view from cable and satellite services should have new movies to watch that are simalar to those found in many hotels. These movies would be on the verge of coming out to video, but exclusive to pay per view first before they come out to video stores.
I can go down to Hollywood video and rent the exact same movies showing on pay per view. Usually cheaper too. Video stores should concentrate on sales of movies and archived movies, letting cable and satellite premium channels take up the new releases right out of pay per view, so those that don't care to wait can pay to view it, and those that don't care are paying anyway with HBO, Showtime, etc. and those who liked the movie can buy it from the video store.
Premium chanels are great but by the time movies get there, they have already been seen, the only difference between that and regular TV is that it's comercial free and uncut.
Reward: One free pay per view movie
