The High Winger Printer Friendly Version
The design idea is for a medium to long range two-engine aircraft in either a larger wide body configuration or narrow body. The engines would be rear-mounted and be either similar to short distance airbus engines or those on longer distance Boeing 787 or 777 aircraft. The high wing design is based on the BAe 146/ Avro RJ and some turbo prop aircraft. The main differences are that this design could be larger or smaller and the engines are rear mounted similar to the MD 88 and others. The safety and passenger aspects of this design are listed below
Safety
As the this is a high wing design fuel tanks would be above he ground and would not be compromised in a wheels up emergency landing. The engines are also above ground level and would not be compromised in an emergency wheels-up landing. The mid wheel nacelles would be wide enough to prevent the plane from tipping over in a wheels-up emergency landing and could be equipped with inflatable air bags to act as buoyancy devices in case of a water landing. Also due to the high wing and high engine design these would not snag on waves or dig into the water if an emergency landing on water is required.
Passenger Comfort
Unlike the Avro (which is a high wing design with engines attached underneath the wings) and other traditional low wing designs, all window-seat passengers would have excellent views, and with a rear engine design noise levels would be acceptable.

Motivation software Printer Friendly Version
Develop a computer program that ultimately works to keep you motivated and consistent in your healthy living. Many times in sports fitness people find it hard to continue if they don't see results right away. Another problem is people don't notice how much of a change their body is making because they see it every day. This program would help to solve these things..
The program would work like this:

1. You have to get some sort of generic photo of yourself that you put into the computer as is.

2. You enter your current statistics, heights, weight, age.

3. The computer performs a scan of your body, determines your body type (endomorph, ectomorph, etc), it presumes your body fat percentage and gives you a full readout on your current condition.

4. It will then be able to give you readouts and images of the possible changes your body can undergo through following a prescribed workout and diet plan. In 6 weeks you could look like this: and it would have a picture of you with the according changes in fat and muscle growth. This could work both ways in fact. If you start dieting and working out in 6 weeks you will look like this. However if you eat so and so a diet from fast food you will look like this in 6 weeks.

5. It could give you frequent updates on what you should be looking like, and you can compare that to your in the mirror results to see if you are on track.

6. It could be incorporated with specific workout routines and diet tips to help you stay exactly on track.

7. You could update new photos of yourself as the weeks went by. If your "ideal" created by the computer was 100%, then the program could scan your updated pictures and tell you how near to that 100% you are. For example, after 3 months you are almost exactly what the original computer image had posted, and are at 90% of your ultimate fitness level.
There could be alot more added to this, but the main idea is that you would gain a mental image of what you could possibly look like. With this in mind you would likely be much more goal oriented and consistent in trying to attain that level of fitness.

Heat transfer from vehicle engines Printer Friendly Version
Harnessing the Waste Heat Energy of the Vehicle Engines
A very large part of the fuel energy that is consumed by the vehicle engines (and other combustion engines) is wasted in the form of heat which has to be removed perforce by forced cooling.
It should be possible to use this heat energy, instead of wasting it, in several innovative ways to add value to the vehicle and increase the overall fuel efficiency of the vehicles by taking over some of the functions which presently need to draw additional power from the engines.
A few examples are:
-A heat transfer liquid filled coil could draw away the waste heat from the engine and transfer it for warming up the interiors, and the wind/rear screens of the vehicles in winters/cold weather.
-The heat transfer system could be used to warm up snacks/food being carried for the journey.
-The heat transfer system could also be used to boil water, with probably some incremental heating, either for sterilizing the drinking water or for providing a hot cup of tea or coffee during the journey.
-The heat transfer system could be used to vaporize a low boiling point liquid and run a gas turbine, akin to the systems being used in the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion method of energy generation. The power so produced could be used to run electric motors to drive the vehicles, thereby saving on fuel consumption. This of course would be possible only in fuel/electric hybrid vehicles. In other vehicles this power could be used for battery charging, heating/cooling of the vehicles, or for any other applications needing electric power.
-The waste heat energy from the engines could also be used as the main heat source for a mini Vapor Evaporative Cooling System to provide for air conditioning the vehicles. This may need a small supplemental heating up of the working fluid to achieve the minimum working temperature but the system would subsequently provide a much larger fuel savings by allowing for smaller engines to be used in the vehicles.
Reward: No reward wanted. In fact I may be able to offer several other ideas for those wanting to make use of the above ideas.
