Smart Water Fountain Printer Friendly Version
I'm thinking of creating a water fountain for a school or a company that when you walk up to it, it can automatically start dispensing about 250ml of water to the employee or student. This would be possible by rfid scanner built into the water fountain which collaborates with the employee's id or student id. If the user would require more water, then they would pass their id over the sensor. I also want to add the feature of a database which records the amount of water a user would drink, and email or sms them via bluetooth encouraging them to drink more water based on how much they would drink. Added to this is a component which checks the amount of water that would be dispensed so that a message can be sent to the maintenance department informing them that the filter needs changing. It therefore means that only students or employees would have access to the water fountain. If a visitor is in the building or school I'm saying they should have a visitor pass which would have the technology built into that card which would give them access to the water fountain.
What do you think?
Reward: Ease of use, and recording keeping of the amount of water used. On time changing of the filter.

Future speed limits Printer Friendly Version
People speed, we all do it but we know its wrong. Every act we take in life has consequences and we shouldn't get away with speeding.
When you purchase a vehicle you have to give your credit card information just like when you register a new phone. Newer cars all come with GPS that can calculate your exact speed. If you decide to speed you are automatically charged 1 cent / second times KM/h over the limit you are. For example if you are driving 10Km/h over the limit you are charged 10cents /second. $6/min.
Cuts cost to tax payers in the form of additional police officers needed and radar equipment / definitely safer / could reduce accidents? In emergency situations where you need to speed (should be never) you will automatically accept the additional cost.
I thought of this when thinking about the future of autonomous vehicles that will eventually drive us around and this type of thing won't be necessary. However, while autonomous vehicles will be automatically going the speed limit, people who do not wish to adopt this technology will continue to drive above the speed limit, putting everyone else in danger. This type of penalty could positively influence these people to adopt autonomous technology if its not made mandatory in the first place.
What do you think? I understand there would be colossal cost to implement this but I am thinking 10 -20 years down the road (pun) when technology has progressed.

GPS Shock Collar System Printer Friendly Version
Purpose: To eliminate the need for fences to manage livestock.

Levels:

Level 1: A shock collar with a remote receiver that can be use to remotely control shocking of the wearer. Shock is administered by a capacitive device and on-board battery for charging.

Level 2: Add a transmitter to sense the livestock's temperature (to know the animal is alive) and to indicate battery charge state.

Level 3: Add a GPS monitoring system to transmit Lat/Long location codes when requested.

Level 4: Add software and PC card/remote receiver/transmitter to allow monitoring of multiple collars to track locations of wearers.

Level 5: Add software on collar to allow the user to program boundary corners by moving the collar to each corner of the desired enclosure and pressing a button on the collar to enter the lat/long into a corner list. The collar can then use this information with an onboard computer system to determine at periodic intervals (also programmable) if the collar is in or outside the boundary specified. If the condition is not desired (in or out) then a shock is administered by the collar. Shocks will also transmit a code so that the monitoring station can set off an alarm to alert the rancher that the battery may soon go dead and that an animal is outside its boundary.

Level 6: Add remote software that can reprogram the collars so that boundaries can be dynamically moved from a central location (your PC). Software can be developed to slowly move the boundaries over time to literally herd the animals to or from a desired location.

Usage:

With all these features and some training it should be possible to do ranch work entirely from you PC and remove the need for fencing entirely.

Potential: The market for this should be huge and it would revolutionize ranching. RFID chips could also become integrated into this technology.
Reward: If you ever get these collars made - just let me have free use of this on my own ranch.
