| Electronic Component Tattle-Tail Stickers 
There are chemicals that change color with temperature (mood rings) and can be designed to coat paper stickers so that when a certain temperature threshold is reached, the sticker will change from green to red (for example) and not change back. We also know that most electronic components will increase in normal temperature when a failure occurs. With a sticker designed for and affixed to all components at point of manufacture, a failure would become VISUALLY apparent. Many TVs, monitors, stereos, etc. are tossed simply because an intermittant problem won't happen when the tech has it in the shop. Many are discarded because the problem is so difficult to troubleshoot that the estimate is too high to be worth repairing. Many COULD be repaired by the home do-it-yourselfer with a soldering iron if he/she could visually see the component to replace.This invention would make these things possible.I thought of this idea when I found out that my $2000.00 21" monitor that died just out of warranty doesn't have a schematic available from any source in the world -- not even the manufacturer. In searching, I found that to be a common industry problem these days.So,... anybody know any chemist out there that would like to tackle this one?Reward: The NAME of the slave labor 7 year old that put that bad capacitor in my Chinese made monitor. ;-)5/5/03 Update: My monitor problem was a 10M ohm wire-wound resistor that burnt open (like a blown fuse) without leaving a mark on the body of the resistor. This means that instead of stickers, some components capable of 'spot' failures should be completely coated with a translucent color changing chemical coating. That would have made this problem visually detectable.

| Telepresence Hologram
Commuting to work requires too much time. It would be nice if I could have a telepresence hologram that I could walk around the office with. It would give me audio and video and I could use it to type my commands onto the computer at work. For example, if I type something on my computer at home the telepresence would enter it in the computer at work.The hologram would be an image of me in a dress suit (even if I'm in my underpants) and could stand or sit, and if I desire, imitate my own movements at home. I could go to meetings and the hologram would sit in a chair and talk and look around the room. I could perhaps even have greater scope of vision because I could use the telepresence hologram to look in all directions.This invention would save millions of hours in commuting time.Reward: A free telepresence hologram would be nice so I could use it at work.

| Safe Driving for Everybody
I have a idea we can all benefit from. I know a lot of you speed demons out there will not agree with me, but I also know a lot of parents and concerned drivers will.I think there should be a computer-based GPS installed on every new car which will act like a stutter box or a restrictor. When you crank your car, the box turns on and connects with a satellite, tracking your GPS location. Then, the satellite sends information back to the box letting it know the speed limit for the road you are currently on. Now that the car knows what the speed limit is, it won't allow you to accelerate over that speed. In case of emergency, the box will deactivate if you turn on your emergency lights, however it will also signal police and rescue dispatch that there is a speeding car with your car type and color, heading north, east, south, west or whatever direction you are heading, the road you are traveling on, and how much over the speed limit you are driving.Reward: Just to be recognized for the safety of others. I would also want the first car with these features, as a gift of gratitude.
