Enhanced driving vision Printer Friendly Version
The idea is to have the driver's corner of the car (between the side window and front screen ) transparent. Would help a lot in enhancing visibility while driving in narrow roads especially with curves or mountain driving. While I drove through mountain roads, I found myself shuffling forward and backward to enhance the visibility, especially while turning. Car manufacturers could create an attractive looking front and add the "enhanced visibility" factor in their marketing.
Reward: have the front corner of my car - toyota corolla - made transparent if possibe.

Autos: IR Reflective Windshield/Glass Printer Friendly Version
Cars get HOT in Texas. I mean like deadly hot. Frequently, someone leaves a dog or a child in a car here in Texas and an hour later, tragedy. On a less severe level, another regular occurance is the welts that occur on your legs when wearing shorts when sitting on leather seats that have been baking in the sun.
It would be nice if car companies could use the same IR reflecting technology used in some light bulbs and photo equipment to reflect infrared wavelengths back away from the car window. The car body should still transmit enough heat to keep the inside warm enough. Is it possible to create glass that reflects IR in the scale of a car windshield?
Edit: I was just informed that my idea was good enough to be used by someone.
Reward: Of course, a new car with this in it would be nice!

Conclusions from The WTC Disaster Printer Friendly Version
During the past several days, I've been seeing those sad scenes from the World Trade Center disaster again and again. Now, I am wondering whether there might be any conclusions to be drawn (and I mean something that goes beyond the killing of more innocent people).
One of the images that struck me most was that of people jumping off the WTC in panic and falling to death. I can't believe that, at the beginning of the 21st century, the only way of escaping from a burning sky scraper is committing suicide by jumping out of the window. If a building is taller than 1000 ft, why don't they have any parachutes for emergency purposes? I don't know if this is technically feasible, but if it's not, there are definitely other solutions. I mean, if you travel on a ship, you expect it to have life-preservers for every passenger. So I think it wouldn't be too much asked to have a similar life saver for tall buildings.
Reward: It would be rewarding for me if others could think about these matters as well and come up with some constructive ideas. (Maybe someone has a new approach to enhance the safety on planes?)
