Humming heads Printer Friendly Version
I read about a phenomena called 'otoacoustic emission' in an article at newscientist.com where there was a dog who seemed to be humming everywhere he went. Here's an excerpt from the article: "In this condition, the normal hearing pathways in the ears are somehow reversed, so that the cochlear efferent nerve fibers stimulate outer hair cells to vibrate and make a noise. Other parts of the ear such as the tympanic membrane can then amplify the sound, until you end up like Zoe, humming wherever you go."
Zoe, as you might have guessed, was the dog.
Never letting a weird thought go to waste, here's a suggestion on how we could turn that condition into something useful. People who have had a severe spinal injury can enter what is called a 'locked-in state', meaning they are so paralyzed that there's no way for them to communicate with the outside world. If a cochlear implant was designed so that it could create these otoacoustic emissions on demand then it might give these patients a way to communicate. With a little biofeedback training they could vary the sound waves that are being emitted and establish a new form of communication.

Heat Wrap Color Change Paint Protectant Printer Friendly Version
What heat wrap is is a shiny coating of an adhesive plastic that protects boats and other manufactured products of large size for transport. It is adhered to the surface with industrial hair dryers (basically an extremely hot hair dryer) so, on any average day anywhere in the world the sun and heat have no way to melt it thusly it protects what is underneath from all weather (it is weather-proof). If you wanted to cheaply change the color of your standard vehicle safely this could be done since a professional can peel off heat wrap without disturbing the paint or undercoating. It could be applied with heat in a similar way as window tinting only it is done with heat at very high temperatures. The edges of the heat wrap would simply conform to the outer surface and whereever it is not needed you would cut it off with a standard razor blade. You could also add any color mixtures or designs or even just cut them out of the heat wrap material and heat them to what is already there. It is also very easy material to work with!
Reward: A color change when needed or wanted.

Hair Away Printer Friendly Version
Much like the fabric softener bar that BOUNCE created to stick to the inside of your dryer. This will also stick to the inside of your dryer, but for the sole purpose of getting rid of pesky pet hair without the hassle of rewashing and drying. Instead of it being in bar form, it would come in sheet form and attract the hair like the swiffer duster attracts dirt and must also be able to work for the washer as well.
Reward: Unlimited supply of free product.
