Mail Box Buzzer Printer Friendly Version
Like most people we still get a large amount of important snail mail through our postal services, but we never know when the mail gets to the mail box since our windows and doors are too far away or we had no outgoing mail for the flag to be put up to tell us the mail has finally arrived.
If we had a caller I.D. type log or a buzzer the mail man could push then we wouldn't have to guess or run out to check the mail every half hour or more for the many differing hours the mail might arrive. The Buzzer/Bell/I.D. would be remote from the mail box to the inside of your home for ultimate ease.
Reward: A free instalation and free life time use if a fee would apply (very doubtful).

Perfectly Weighted and Balanced Coins Printer Friendly Version
Have you ever noticed that on the two sides of every coin there is a different design? Well, the two designs are there for appearance sake and not for flipping the coin in the air for a game of heads or tails. You can still make a unique face (for heads) and another design on the other side and still be able to balance the weight perfectly for a 100% chance of having a 50/50 chance at heads or tails the same way a throwing knife is balanced.
You would then have a true flip with that being the main problem with fairness, but the other factors are left to chance. You could make them any size with any color or design as long as they are balanced and start a trend of collecting different flipping coins. Maybe even break into the gold, silver or platinum industry and make them collectable for investments as well. You could have them specially made for the designs on either side of your choice. You could add your favorite kid or adult game designs. Anything can be balanced and placed on them.
Reward: A person's face on one side fitting the use for the event of the coin's usage. Or anything imagined!

Reduce Polution & The Ozone Holes Printer Friendly Version
One major component of air pollution is ozone. A major problem with our atmosphere is the existence of several "holes" in the Ozone Layer.
My idea is based on the fact that a toroid, or doughnut-shaped fluid mass is self-sustaining. A good example of this is a smoke ring. Someone puffs smoke through their "Oh" -shaped lips and the ring (toroid) moves through the air without losing its shape or contents. On a larger scale, years ago, cigarettes were advertised from outdoor signs by blowing smoke rings on a grand scale from the lips of a person painted on the billboard.
I suggest that, in high pollution areas, we build toroid generators; tall chimneys with "puffing" devices at their base which will draw in the heavily-polluted, high ozone air and literally "puff" the ozone into the upper atmosphere.
I see several problems with this suggestion, so let me point them out before someone else does. First, and foremost, winds will affect the distance the toroid will ascend without losing its shape and coming apart. The flip side of this problem is the fact that if there was very much wind, there wouldn't be much of an accumulation of ozone at ground level. The second problem is upper atmosphere winds. Frankly, I can't think of any way around those. But I'm open for suggestions. Finally, is the technological challenge of devising a toroid generator of sufficient power to send the ozone into the upper atmosphere. I suggest that heating the pollution might increase its tendency to rise and a slightly cone-shaped chimney would increase the velocity.
Reward: If someone actually develops something based on my idea, I'd only ask that they build one in my home town of Baton Rouge, LA - a high-ozone area.
