Improved Democracy Printer Friendly Version
The concept of democracy is a great idea, but recent trends have shown that it is a vulnerable one, too. It seems that all a leader has to do is cut the education and social security budgets and create a large mass of people that are poor and illiterate. Spend all the money you didn't spend for the sake of the people to finance a huge propaganda campaign instead, and once you have brainwashed the gullible 51% with your "new world" views, it doesn't matter at all what the other 49% say.
Here's the fix: I propose to put several other questions on the ballots as well, questions that should be fairly easy to answer for the average adult - a mathematical one, a geographical one, an economical one, and so on. The last question on the list should be the one for the President/Party/Prime Minister you want empowered, but your vote should only count if you got the previous questions correct.
With the new system, we can even do away with age restrictions. If you're 14 and educated enough to understand the world we live in, go and vote! If you're 90 and have trouble remembering your own name, chances are your vote won't count. This may sound tough, but remember that voting is an extremely important process, and you should definitely possess a sound mind on election day. So why not prove it?
See your vote as a weapon. Careless voting can kill. Protect a gun from abuse by storing it in a safe place, and protect your vote by safeguarding it with a minimum amount of education. Doing so is your own responsibility as a voter. Basically, if someone wants to manipulate you to get your vote, I'd say that's fine. But to do that, they'd first have to spend money on your education so you can pass that test. That in return makes it harder to brainwash you. If they still manage to do it, good for them - now you at least got something in return!

Adopt a Single Parent Printer Friendly Version
Churches are at a loss of how to help the continuing growing numbers of single parents which are increasing on a daily basis. In order to assist single parents, there needs to be education. A seminar could be conducted which would introduce the concept and explain the many needs a single parent encounters. My idea is to have a men's group and women's or youth groups of every participating church "adopt" single parents for one month. The men's group could provide house repair, car repair, and lawn care. The women's group could provide babysitting, meals, budget counseling, groceries, taxi service to job interviews and doctor's appointments. The groups would pool their money together to assist a financial need. The churches would do an asssessment of the volunteers to see where he or she is most useful according to their skills and talents. There would be a coordinator to schedule the volunteers as the needs arise. It would be good if a large number of churches participated at the same time during the month because the needs are so great. If this concept was enacted, welfare and food stamps would be a memory.

Restaurant Menu Bingo Printer Friendly Version
I have a new idea for a restaurant promotion game. The chef/restaurant owner chooses a certain combination from the menu - e.g. spinach soup + small Pepsi + fruit cake. You win the game by ordering exact this combination from the menu - the only problem is that you don't know what it is. The winner of the game takes the jackpot, which will be increased by a certain amount every day, until someone finally places the winning order (of course, the prize money has to be spent at the restaurant). Then, a new combination of orders is chosen (possibly at random) and a new round of the game starts.
Of course, the details would depend on the particular restaurant, e.g. if the order has to be placed in one and by the same person, or if it's enough that the people at the same table order the particular dishes during the course of a meal/evening.
Reward: Free food if I ever happen to visit the restaurant
