Celebrate Education every Month Printer Friendly Version
I have seen students suffer when their year is down (failed), some have even committed sucide. This happens because students start studying when exam comes close by and there is too much accumulation of syllabus.
Hence the solution lies in creating 10 standards out of today's every class, i.e. if students passes today's sixth class then it will be termed as 60th in the new system. There will be only one final exam consisting of all subjects thought for that month, i.e. in a year there will be 10 exams and each of one month's syllabus.
In this system students will study at the end of every month and the best of all is that if they fail then they will lose only one month of their life, i.e. if one fails in std 11 then he remains there for next month only because std 11 will be only for one month.

Political candidate background information database Printer Friendly Version
We need a website that lists all registered candidates for upcoming elections and that provides potential voters with as much information on each candidate as possible, such as their:
-voting history, if already a politician
-education
-affiliations and associations
-criminal record
-stance on issues (major and minor)
-articles written about them
-awards, commendations, etc.
-criticisms of their actions and policies
-ideology
-biography
-achievements
-any controversy involving them or their actions or those of their associates

This website must meet the following criteria:
-not-for-profit
-does not recieve corporate or political funding/contributions
-non-partisan, and as unbiased as possible
-moderated and cross-referenced for accuracy
-easily accessible to anyone
-free
-easy to navigate
-well 'advertised' via public service announcements to maximize awareness of the service
The idea here is to educate and thoroughly inform voters so that they know all about who they are voting for, so as to not get screwed by greedy or flip-flopping politicians. We need third-party information that is more trustworthy (fact-based) than what the politicians speak of themselves, because they will often say anything to get voted into office. Once they are in, they can do whatever they want even without the approval of the people who voted for them; so being able to estimate a candidate's pros and cons can be an invaluable tool in ensuring true democracy and representation.
I hate voting because I never know anything about 95% of the people on the ballot and therefore vote for the most familiar name (which is almost always the candidate with the biggest campaign budget) or based on party affiliation. I always feel like I'm giving my car keys to someone I just met...not a good idea; And it is way too hard and time consuming to research all the given candidates.
Reward: informed votes = more accurate representation = better politics!

Random Governments Printer Friendly Version
In times where the US are trying to spread their home-made type of democracy all over the world, it's time to think about new forms of government. I'll call my invention "Automatocracy" - the idea is that elections should be abolished, instead the results should be created by a random generator.
The most important achievement of democracy (as opposed to monarchy or dictatorship) is the regular rotation of government. Automatocracy would definitely have this advantage - plus a couple of other really great benefits. Just think about it: no more expensive election campaigns, no more stupid election rhetorics, less lobbying, less propaganda, no more manipulation through the media. People could finally start having their own opinions instead of getting brainwashed. Politicians would finally be able to reach unpopular decisions as well, hey, they could even concentrate on their governing duties - chances are that they'll not be part of the next government anyway!
Of course this invention still needs a little bit of fine-tuning: the randomized elections need to follow a certain algorithm, perhaps in some statistical relation to real elections. Possibly there needs to be a set of simple rules against government crimes (corruption, embezzlement) - things that are usually punished automatically in elections. Have a test run in some far-away country where it's not so important (Iraq, US, wherever) and we're set! ;-)
