GPS-based local traffic situation viewer: Given the GPS satellites and mapping satellites we have today, if we can have satellites dedicated to specific areas, we can have them prepare dynamic maps of the traffic situation: 1. periodically, 2. On demand. I am driving my car fitted with a GPS-local t...

Coordinated traffic signals that adapt to traffic flow

There's an accident here on I-5 south and cars flock to side streets to avoid the delays. One lane of the interstate is blocked and miles and miles of backup occurs. But then, the side streets become congested too, then the side side streets etc. The problem is that the traffic signals on the side s...

The problem is not that it is too difficult to vote, the problem is that its too easy to vote. Why make it easier? Do you really want that goofball who just cut you off in traffic, and then gave you the finger, to go home and click for president? This is not a Democrat or Republican issue, because s...

Actually, I'd suppose that there's where the energy is wasted in city traffic: braking in front of red lights. It might be a cool idea to build a test junction: a smart intersection with piezoelectric (or whatever else) resistance that adapts to the lights as well as the speed of the car. Basically...

I'm afraid I may not quite understand this one. Sounds to me that you are talking about those self-reflecting traffic signs that you can often find on the outside of sharp corners. :-?

Quick change pavement

 by timbochung ¦  Tue Mar 08, 2005 9:03 pm ¦  Forum: Creativity Pool ¦  Topic: Quick change pavement ¦  Replies: 1 ¦  Views: 3032

Roads undergo lots of stress due to the winter/spring freeze-thaw cycle. To help speed up repairs why not alter the chemistry of the asphalt so that it is very flexible? That way large sections of pavement can be rolled up like a giant jellyroll. As the old pavement is wound up and the new pavement ...

High PSI Exhaust Suction Compressor

Using both the old and the new technologies of barreled carborators and the new fuel injection systems can be optimized and the RPM maximized in any Engine with a very cheap and easy to add high PSI exhaust suction compressor which will add the power to do the opposite action that the fuel coming in...

Stupid Head Tickets

I've had this idea for a long time... Ever been frustrated by rude, obnoxious, inattentive, or just plain scary people on the road? To the point you actually wish there was a cop nearby messing with the flow of traffic, just to stop this driver, and save the rest of us? I have the solution! Everyone...

Smart Routing

 by nicholas anthony ¦  Tue Jan 18, 2005 9:49 pm ¦  Forum: Creativity Pool ¦  Topic: Smart Routing ¦  Replies: 0 ¦  Views: 2935

People drive around all the time. Some people know where they are going, some get lost, and others are slowed by traffic. Some days you get to work with no problems, and other days you run into heavy traffic. There are already systems that tell you how to get to a specific location. There are also s...

Laser Head Lamps

Laser light has two main characteristics. First, it is coherent; that is, all the emitted waves are in perfect synchronisation. Second, it is paralllel; thatis, it is non-linear and the inverse square law of intensity and distance does not apply. Neither of which is really needed for auto headlamps....

Where are the police when you see a traffic violation? Nowhere, that's where. I propose the provincial/state governments create a course for the above average driver (someone with the maximum amount of merits on their license) to take to learn the basics of vehicle trafficing and violations. Once th...

I think you are right burns, but the thing is, you WOULD be staring at the laser light constantly on the highway for hours on end due to oncoming traffic.

I guess the only way to know for sure whether it were safe or not would be to test it!

I hope it does pan out because I think it's a good idea.

It seams obvious that the most serious traffic accidents happen at the highest speeds. The idea set forth in this post can be modified for town driving, with increased technology, but I figure I will list what can happen “today” on the highways and freeways. I have commuted for many years in bumper ...
