gettin of the ground

I always thought it was a cool idea to make a hooverboard.
But how do you get the *beep* thing in to the air ?
I started brainstorming
Air makes loads of noise, and the rotating ventilators arent very safe, and takes a big engine
Then i thought of some kinda rocket power but thats not safe either now is it.
So now i thought of something really stupid but who knows, it might work
maybe it's possible to shoot magnetic particles out of the board at rapid rates, so the force fields of the particles push you off the ground. Anywho just an idea ....
