How do i call a American number from Australia off my house phone.

This is the number, 1-800-592-5499. That is what i am entering and i am being told 'Your call cannot be connected'

Is there a area code i have to put in front of the number?
(No i am not putting # or * where the - is, im just doing it as a whole number, 18005925499)

It is seems to be a toll land line number, so you need to add an 001 code of a country and than area code followed by the number itself. Try it this will surely sort out the problem.
