astral dementia/alzheimer's disease connection theory I

My high school psychology teacher said that if we don't dream, we die. I think he also said that as we age, we dream less. According to the book "Projection of the Astral Body," we astral project (subconsiously?) while we sleep. We need the pineal gland to astral project. My theory: This astral projection may be dreaming, thus we need the pineal gland, to dream (to live). I theorize that some diseases associated with aging such as demenitia/alzheimer's disease may be linked to pineal gland problems.
