You initially wrote parascope which would be something to look beside the car in front of you. Don't think that's what you meant, besides it would easily cause scratches on other cars when overtaking.

There exists a fibre optic cable mounted 1/8th inch dia imaging device with a 5 inch B&W monitor that retails for about 300 dollars. The resolution is quite good for such a small device.

You will have to make some arrangement to advance and retract the device.
