in britain more and more people are leaving land line contracts due to huge line rental costs . so they use their mobile instead but that means no more house phone . that fancy monolith proudly accomidating pride of place in a room . so how about mobile phone technology in a house phone handset .

I am not quite understanding the thought process behind this. Why wouldn't they just continue to use their cell phone in the house instead of buying a new handset that resembles a cell phone, when they already possess a cell phone?
