First of all, ice skating and rollerblading are already very similar activities - anyone who's good at one thing can easily switch to the other one (except for braking). The great thing about ice skating is the thin water film that forms between iron and ice - it makes the skating process as effortless as it is. For that reason, everything else on the skating shoes is firm - that and the sharp blade provide you with the necessary grip. Rollerblades work differently - the wheels need to turn effortlessly, but there's no way the wheels should glide on the road - the more grip, the better! (Have you ever been rollerblading on a wet surface? It simply doesn't work!) In both cases, combining a rolling wheel with a gliding surface would greadtly hinder the process. You could probably take your rollerblades on to the ice by adding spikes to the wheels - but I assure you that you'll be the only one who doesn't have fun.
