US Independence from Foreign Oil

I would like to see a U.S. president and congress marshall American creativity and scientific know-how to eliminate our need for foreign oil. If we can use our technology to put men on the moon, build impressive computers, be the leader in medical technology, etc. we can certainly divest ourselves of the need for foreign oil. The U.S. presently uses about 17 million barrels a day. If we can get that to about 8 million barrels a day we would not need middle eastern or other foreign oil supplies. Japanese auto makes have given us a start by way of the Honda and Toyota hybrid cars.

What's wrong with the bush Administration plan? Taking over the rest of the world means there won't be any foreign oil...

Ok, this might take a while - let's give your idea a try in the meantime!
