If we add a brighter light bulb inside a darker coloured, plastic, turn signal then we could easily determine which way someone has to go, even in direct sun light. The darker the plastic and the brighter the bulb inside the easier it is to tell. I propose we also add a third middle, flashing signal for going straight at an intersection to prevent accidents. The lights could be any colour except yellow, white, or red but one colour for each flashing signal.
