Ok, don't know if it is new, but when you pop popcorn, you always have seeds left over on the bottom. Couldn't you make a sifter like one form pasta that lets the seeds fall though and you are left with only the popcorn?

There are a large number of food grade plastic screens of various opening sizes. Sifting through this will give the desired result. Having said that, I find that the unpopped seeds taste quite good too.
