It is really hard to drive when it is raining and there is always many accidents. If there was a way to make some kind overhang on the car having an umbrella effect not allowing rain to hit the windshield.

Not a bad idea.. few things to point out though...
1. it would look really ugly, people wouldnt want to use it
2. it would have to be very durable to sustain high speed while driving, and not rip up easily...
3. it would have to be built some way that it wont make your car tip over, or lift off the ground at high speeds (that would be funny :P)

The idea isn't too bad because there was something simular used in the old days that was used to help block out the sun. Check out this link:

However, it would be quite difficult to do such a thing for rain. It would be fine sitting still but keep in mind when you are traveling 60 mph the rain is hitting your windshield at almost level.

You might consider this: rather than trying to prevent water from hitting the windshield, how about having it removed easier. All windshields slope upwards ... could slope it downwards that way the water could have both the friction of the air pushing it down as well as gravity and possibly the rain drops will hit and be removed imediately.

Just throwing out an idea.

thats why we have windshield wipers, no need for umbrellas though it would be funny to see someones car take flight! ;-D

With windshield wipers u still cannot see as well...If ther was a way to keep rain from comin on ur windshield in the first place there would be better visibility causing less accidents during the rainy season

Yes, but windshield wipers are being improved all the time, you can buy really good ones that provide perfect vision--even in the rain.

How come there are so many accidents when there is rain...

there is a way to keep rain off your car... drive under a bridge. that's the only plausible way to do it. the shield would have to be a lot bigger than the sun blocker on that old car, and it would cause to much drag and rip appart. plus, you didn't take into account the fact that in a car, you run into rain also. so it's not just falling down, it's comming from the front too. so either the shield would have to be longer than the car itself, or you would have to have a barrier on the end of it. which would cause the same problem we have now. it's a good thought, but just not possible.

Mostly good for when you are sittin in traffic

yeah, but then it would have to be retractable, or it would fly off. and even then, what do you need to see when you're not moving?

When we get back to our car during heavy rain, with an umbrella and retract and keep in the car, the wated keeps dripping and u know what happens. A bag can be provide on each of the car doors to keep the rain drenched umbrellas after we get seated in the car so that the floor mats dont get wet from the dripping umbrella. ONce we reach our home we can empty that bag or it could have a drain system to empty the water by itself. How abt this?

The problem is that the direction of motion of a rain drop is the vector sum of the vertical velocity of the falling drop and the horizantal velocity of the car. Since the velocity of the car is usually much higher than that of the rain drop the resultant velocity is nearly horizantal. This makes the umbrella idea untenable except when the car is stationary.

How about if we think of a visual simulator system built in the cars front and back windshields, that can dim the windshields when you activate the system and gives you a visual simulation for 40M ahead and 20M back visual, like a radar system with advance simulation technologies, so we can see the objects in front and behind of us, helping our self's to be proactive!! Whatever....just an idea!!! :-?
