It is possible. CD-ROM drives have a little hole in the front. If you unfold a paperclip and stick it in the hole, you can open the CD-ROM when the power is off. This useful in case your CD-ROM suddenly stops working and you have an important disk inside it. Otherwise, it's better not to do this. :>
