Hello Krishan,

This is just a quick brainstorm on your quest; use the exhaust heat to power a Rankin Cycle engine (see CreativityPool thread http://www.creativitypool.com/viewtopic ... %20-%2045k ) . This 2nd engine could then be used as a power assist.

WOW! Google search on [ "Rankin Cycle" engine ] had the CreativityPool as the number 2 search hit out of 1,150 hits. Steve is getting really good at this stuff! ;D He's even above freepatentsonline and that's not easy to do.

Why not make the excess heat useful and be able to run a stirling motor. A stirling motor simply needs heat to run and doesnt need to be cooled down. Maybe you could simply turn of the engine in the car and simply let the stirling motor run the car.

Sorry for the delayed response Michael. Yes, the the waste exhaust heat could be used to generate additional power using a Rankine Cycle engine. However I feel it would be better if we can first make use of the waste heat more directly instead of first using it to generate electricity and then use this electricity to power the drive or run some appliances because the cumulative losses in such cases would be quite high. This is why I had suggested evaporative vapor cooling & air conditioning. We could then go in for power generation only where heating/air conditioning is not required.

The Stirling motor would need some heat source to run and this would have to come from fuel combustion so it may not be feasible to use the Stirling motor alone to run the car. This could of course be used as an auxiliary power source using the waste exhaust heat though it may be necessary to first evaluate the relative efficiencies achievable from the waste exhaust heat using Rankine engine, Stirling engine, evaporative vapor cooling, the OTEC method or any other method..
