Like magnetic poles repel each other, right?. What if we were to have pavements or "magnetic ways" that were the same magnetic pole as a magnetic skateboard. People will be able to hover and move by leaning forward and stop by leaning backwards.

No fuel or energy is consumed either. Surely we could use this concept for motor vehicles on highways?

Reward: I would like to be involved in the R&D if someone were to do this.

wel cars could use this with intelligant pole revsal cars would not hit each other from behind on head on a a oppsite pole would push the car away :-)

The trick would be in controlling it. MagLev trains have the additional advantage of being able to magnetically space from the edge of the track as well. On a skate board over flat surfaces, you would need all your electromagnetic controlling devices on the skate board -- extremely heavy and bulky.

This idea might work if a skate boarder doesn't mind being limited to a channel of magnets embedded in ground. The channel could be formed into curves to keep it interesting.

Ever consider hang-gliding or powered parachutes? :-)

I like those new para-sail skate boards.

Tristan, when i was in school back in 1978 a general electric public speaker came to our class and showed us there version of a magnetic hover board, however it was in it's first stages of developement ,triangular in shape,it was quite an interesting show and tell forum for us all and it really worked accept we were not privy to it's intent of use but the speaker had mentioned something inline of what you speak about something to the effect of a magnetic side walk mode of transportation,so if your really interested in finding out more contact general electric and inquire about it and if it ever came into fruition.[/b]

This is a perpetual motion machine of the first kind that violates the first law of thermodynamics and therefore should be in the realm of SF. The various maglev systems that work are in effect linear electric motors that consume power. The magnetic levitation itself does not consume power. However, there will be no movement.

they could implement different poles for adjacent countries...those tresspasers going over the border will be stuck as soon as they step over rofl..

Wasn't that the idea behind the hoverboard in Back to the Future? 8-o

it wouldn't work because the way that magnets are set up, UNLESS you were on some sort of tram type setup... the idea could work for specific situations, but having something like a parking lot sized magnet, you would be limited to a small area, and the magnetic strength would have to be weak to prevent the "board" from flipping over to grab the like polarity...

the magnets idea is impossible withought a source of fuel but...... think of it like this, the world is like a huge magnet if you were to harness that then put something in a car that could have the same magnetic pull it would bounce away from it, which is your hover. But if you were to do this you would only to sit in one spot, bust an electric motor on there which could control the magnetism so the more volts running through it the higher is goes vice versa. Then you can get something on the bottom that can control airflows, therefore propelling you like a jet.
