It is normally seen in many households (at least in my household) that older people (sometimes we youngsters) tend to go asleep while watching television. So we can have a television set which gives a message, every 1 hour or 40 minutes, indicating that the television set is ON. Mind you! This message has to be a voice message, which can be easily installed in a television set.

Example of a voice message: "Your television set is on!" if possible indicating the time.

But if you are not awaken by the television beeing on, how would this message wake you?

Almost all TV sets have a sleep timer that does this job effectively. Some time back there was a post on this forum that suggested a motion monitor that switches off power when there is no physical movement in the room for a specified time.

Most TV's today come with a Timer ON/OFF function. Set this timer to whatever duration you need and it turns off automatically.

Try this on your tv - its very simple to use.

How about a t.v. set that displays on the screen and/or alerts you through audio if you have an incoming phone call coming in from your landline? Also displays the caller-id info onscreen.... Also has the feature of lowering the volume on the t.v. for you automatically....

Anyway, expanding on your idea, how about a system that "knows" when you are asleep by scanning your brain and it can compute and tell if you're asleep according to your CAT SCANs and will turn off the television automatically. Also has an "adjustable" feature that reads your brain and adjusts the television volume and brightness of the television according to your personality mood and temperament!

There's also the "voice detector" that detects when you are snoring and the television will turn off automatically! :-)
