How about a low powered insect robot with a small camera which will "memorize" things lying in your room and will send the pictures of your things using a wireless transceiver to your computer. So when you want to search for something you just browse through the pictures on your computer and instruct the robot to search for it. It could be your favorite pen or your earphones or your ipod. Follow the robot and it will guide you to your object. Since the robot would be small it could reach any corner of your room. At least it will tell you the last seen location of the object.
Reward: should be a good looking one...which wont freak out your girlfriend.
