Can already be done. A lot of computer system boards and ethernet boards have what is called a wake on lan feature, this listens for incoming traffic via the lan, or if you are using a standard modem, use the wake on ring feature. This takes the system from standby, to full power, does whatever youw...

Bad roads

 by ratnakar ¦  Sat Jul 05, 2003 12:48 pm ¦  Forum: Creativity Pool ¦  Topic: Bad roads ¦  Replies: 7 ¦  Views: 4576

Potholes and patches are a nuisance to commuters, they damage cars and cost the government lots of money to repair. Repair works is also time consuming. My idea is for covering these potholes and bad roads with temporary substitutes such as a matting made of skid proof hard rubber which can be made ...

Truck Lanes

 by wjphoto ¦  Mon Jun 30, 2003 4:24 am ¦  Forum: The Docks ¦  Topic: Truck Lanes ¦  Replies: 5 ¦  Views: 3890

I'm sure most of us who have traveled the Interstates have run into this type of problem: 3.4 or more trucks riding side by side on the Interstate for miles and miles at 50mph. There should be a truck lane (enforced by law) that trucks must use if they can't pass other vehicles within a reasonable a...

Choice of book cover colors

I just picked up Neil Gaiman's Smoke and Mirrors - great book, but the cover is purple, with silver lettering, giving it the aura of a cheap supermarket romance novel. How am I supposed to read that on the subway? (See? This really is a traffic-related idea...) A couple years ago, Filth (Irvine Wels...

More efficient, humane work schedule

- 30 hour work week is standard. Jobs would offer both a 5AM to 11AM shift or a 1PM to 7PM shift. (Restaurants, bars would have different shifts.) - Traffic on roads reduced as there are half the commuters on road at same time (except at lunch time). - Families wouldn't need daycare. One worker in m...

Steve, I can see what you are say. I appear overzelous at times, and this may be one of those times. When I feel passionate about a topic, and in the negative to it, I let it fly, just so as there is no question to how i feel. As I would in the positive. Its emotional not logical and another side of...

Planes Security Protocol

 by gruitamarius ¦  Wed May 14, 2003 2:52 am ¦  Forum: Creativity Pool ¦  Topic: Planes Security Protocol ¦  Replies: 1 ¦  Views: 3883

I read about the remote controlled planes, I think that a video surveillance system will make a lot easier the decision to take the control from the flight crew. Hidden cameras in hot spots of the plane will tell to the traffic control centre, where the plane is in that moment, if is any security ri...

Black Box in Automobiles??? Control Speed, and Traffic Violations??? You must be one of those control freaks out there who just philosophically think you can control mankind with the aid of computers??? Sorry to say, your on the wrong side of the fence, buddy!! A Self Driving Car

Machines currently stamp reflectors into the road for night driving. Why not stamp in radio frequency emitters as well along with these reflectors. The frequency emitters emit a tag number and position signal for a receiver on a vehicle to receive to gauge exactly where it is in the road. The vehicl...

Judge yourself accurately; As soon as possible after starting the ramp, start judging the spacing on all visable cars in the lane you will merge with looking for the best slot and start accelerating accordingly -- do you? You should be going slightly faster than freeway traffic when you start your m...

This would work without needing a bigger battery, however, it might be one of those ideas that works TOO well. It would give drivers the ability to squeeze into parking spots so tight that the cars in front and back, if not simularly equipped, would not be able to get out. Then again, this kind of t...

Ten years from now, cars and other transportation vehicle, will no longer be used, because a new way of transportation will be invented by me... that is through TeleTransfer... As far as I know, most countries slow down traffic on purpose. At least where I live, the authorities claim that they could speed up traffic if they wanted to, but that it's part of some strange governmental plan for a purpose only known by the government itself. ;-7

Intelligent Traffic Lights

by Kev ¦  Sat Mar 15, 2003 5:27 am ¦  Forum: Sea of Chaos ¦  Topic: Intelligent Traffic Lights ¦  Replies: 4 ¦  Views: 4662

I've always been frustrated by traffic lights that hold up traffic unnecessarily. My idea is to have computer controlled sets of traffic lights with sensors detecting on coming traffic from all junctions or crossroads. This way when there is no oncoming traffic, a reasonable distance away from the t...
