an excellent idea that has already been implemented by Anderson windows and doors. Leaving the handle on the side opposite the hinge they lock the top, bottom and side bolts with an upward movement and simply open the door with a downward movement. As these are clear french doors no application for handles in the middle. Uses a convential lock to secure the movement of the handle. Simulare technology has been used in large french doors since their invention to lock the top and bottom at the same time. No serious issues with turning force of the lever.
Oh yea. large safes and vaults use your idea to secure their doors with the handle in the moddle, but they are moving large diameter rods tightly into the surrounding frames.
