Desert houses Printer Friendly Version
Building a house in the desert with very little material. Basically instead of building the house, dig it up. Add on some self tainting glass roof to benefit from all the sun light, a couple of solar panels in the 'underground' garden, which is obviously at the same level as your house (i.e. underground) and some system to recycle water for a month or so, while waiting for the next delivery by truck.
Would be great in Algeria where there is over 2 million squares kilometers of desert to grab and the state gives you free concessions for 99 years. Could turn into an estate (they give up to 100 square kilometers for free) and start up some hi tech, hi added value products business and ensure enough cash for the whole environmentally friendly thing to work out.
Problems: haven't got a clue on the architecture and technical stuff surrounding such a building project?
Reward: A free Saharan dug up house like this.

Customised answering Printer Friendly Version
We all know of answering machines in phones that read out a specific message for any call when we do not pick up the receiver for a few rings. I suggest an option to have customised answering based on who is calling. Example, if any of your relatives are calling when you are out on a tour, the message can be "I'm off to India. Will be back on 10th" while for others, you could just say "Pls leave ur number and I'll call back"

Automotive teeneager switch Printer Friendly Version
A system that allows you to "switch" your vehicle to a "teenager mode". This would consist of a speed limiter for the engine so you can control vehicle speed, sensors on the seats to see if there are more passengers than allowed, and a GPS system that you can pre-program to set off an alarm (in the car and at home) if the vehicle enters and restricted area (ie. certain parts of town etc.) With teenage driving deaths at an alltime high, I feel this would be embraced by the insurance industry.
