Self Controlled Car Speed Restrictor Printer Friendly Version
The "NO-SPEEDY CD" device replaces your regular in-car CD player. But the "NO-SPEEDY CD" player is driven by a series of belts, chains and sprockets from the front wheels of your vehicle.
Now go and buy your favourite CDs in various speed formats, and pop in the appropriate format dependant on the speed restrictions youre driving within.
Hey presto, youre in a built up area and you've got your 30mph version of Steps playing. If you start to go too fast, they sound dreadful and you slow down to a more suitable speed.
Reward: A cheese and pickle sandwich. .... and some crisps.

Two-Part Car Horns / Bicycle bells Printer Friendly Version
Ever happened to you that you honked your car horn or rang your bicycle bell just to signal to someone else "hi, am here" but they misunderstood it as an aggressive gesture?
Why not allow all bells and horns in traffic to make two different sounds - one for "hi / hello / look here" and one for "danger / jump aside / buzz off"? The "danger" signal should be the one that comes naturally, e.g. when you press the car horn really hard. The lightweight friendly signal could sound when you push the horn only lightly (technology already exists in electronic drums!) or when you pull the bell trigger in the opposite direction.
Reward: Set of free bicycle bells

In Car Signs Printer Friendly Version
Signs at the roadside could eventually be done away with if a transmitter were to replace them. This could be picked up by a micro chip receiver built into cars. The information could be displayed or read out by a computerised voice. For instance you have just entered a 40 MPH zone.
This could be encouraged by the friend of the earth groups, think of the tons of materials that could be done away with. Also when the signs needed updating this would be a simple download process from the traffic authorities.
Reward: No more ugly signs spoiling our environment.
