Smart Windshield Washer Sensor Printer Friendly Version
Problem: The "intermittent" wiper setting on my car is often not the right speed. When the rain lets up, it's still too fast and the wiper scrapes. When the rain starts to get harder, it's too slow and I can't see. When I slow up or slow down, the wiper speed doesn't.
Solution: Have a small photo sensor sitting inside the window pointing outside, at a place that is covered by the wiper but not in the view of the driver. The photo sensor sends data to a smart processor - that estimates the rain that's hitting the window and adjusts the wiper blade speed. It could "watch" the wiper blade go by to calibrate the settings of a clear, recently wiped window versus the build up of rain drops between wipes.

Use-that-other-wall gadget Printer Friendly Version
There's this big fat wall sitting in front of my kitchen window (it's probably the same wall you have in front of your toilet window, or someone else can see from his sleeping room window).
"My" wall is only a couple of feet away from the kitchen window, but it's far enough so I can't touch it when I lean out of the window (and I wouldn't want to try it as Im living on the fourth floor). Still the wall really looks like I should make some cool use of it. If the wall was made of steel, I could use huge magnets and put my shopping lists up there (just like other people do on their fridge doors). Technically I could always write down the shopping list on a piece of paper, stick it in a beamer and project it against the wall, but that's not really the convenience I'm looking for (also it would constantly use up energy). So what I need is a cool idea how I can use that "other" wall which isn't my property and where I'm not allowed to use screws or nails.

SMALL-MART Printer Friendly Version
A reatailer that could combine the advantages of internet shopping (or even large discount stores), namely selection and prices, with the low cost of many local distribution points would meet a lot of shopper's needs, and save time and transportation costs. Using computer-based warehouse information systems, the company could take orders for goods through a website, then ship to local outlets for customer pick-up. An extra charge for delivery service could even be a part of the scheme. These distribution points could be as simple as the corner gas station with a franchise with a drive-through pick-up window.
