Mini Printer Printer Friendly Version
When one wants just one label or neat printing on a small piece of card or paper currently one has to print on a large sheet and then cut-away the unwanted paper. Have you ever tried to print on a post-it sheet, impossible.
So how about a small computer printer designed to allow one-off prints of small labels, cards etc., of a maximum size of say a post-it sheet. Not a feed-through type printer, but designed maybe so that you could place the card or slip of paper on the base of the printer and then the hinged printing mechanism is brought into contact with the card/paper. This would avoid the problem larger printers have with small pieces of paper/card being too small in size or too thick for the feed rollers. The printer need only be capable of black printing.
Reward: One of the final working products for free.

Tonerless plain paper laser printing Printer Friendly Version
Laser printing on plain paper. Can it not be done by accurately calibrated laser just powerful enough to charr the surface of plain paper to create characters and images? Only basic scanner needed. No toner, no consumables. You can print on both sides too. Right from the time I heard of laser printers in 1973, I always thought that it would be this way. I am now 57 yrs and have been in computer maintenance field since 1968. I know xeroxes and laser printers' insides.
A little elaborate concept is as below..... For calibration, the laser burns a small square blot at top left corner of the page at increasing power and with help of a sensor, burns it just enough black. And

calibrates the laser for that paper (alternately, it can be precalibrated for standard grammage paper) Then it simply runs the machine. Afterall lasers can cut "corneas" (LASSIK sight correction) as well as diamonds. All the problems like safety etc have been solved there, and they may get solved here also.

Smart Fridge Printer Friendly Version
I know refrigerators are coming out with computer screen panels to list groceries needed, how about installing a printing machine to the panel. Note the groceries needed, then when you are ready to get your groceries you print a list that prints on thermographic paper. Sort of like a cash register reciept, thermographic paper is used by heat so there is no re-inking to be done. All that has to be done is reload with a roll of thermographic paper.
Reward: Would love to have a Smart Fridge, definitely make my life easier.
